January Cocktail of the Month:
Kick Start Your New Year
South of the Border
It's Tequila time and this cocktail is a variation of the famous Brave Bull with the simple addition of 1/4 shot of lime juice just to take the edge off. Try and use the best Tequila you can find - preferably 100% agave. Tequila has a strong and proud history in Mexico, Popular tequila cocktails include the ubiquitous Margarita (1950) with its endless variations, Tequila Sunrise and Brave Bull etc.
The origin of tequila can be traced back to 250-300 AD, where Aztec Indians first fermented the juice of the Agave Azul plant to produce their ceremonial wine (pulque). Only in 1519 when Spaniards conquered Mexico, Cortes’ soldiers discovered that this juice could be distilled. The Spanish introduced distillation, but it was not until 1795 that one of the most well known brands today opened is door to the first distillery in Tequila, Mexico.
Remember that Mezcal is the Tequila with the worm in, actually it is a lavae or grub, but anyway, for this recipe we are using Tequila Blanco otherwise known as White or Silver Tequila.

Luke has Zinged this one up with a vanilla liqueur found in most supermarkets and Creme de Cacao, which is made from the finest roasted cacao beans which are only distilled and not percolated, giving the white version of Creme de Cacao a lighter flavour and clearer colour. These extra ingredients add a smoothness over the Tequila and makes for a really nice and elegant sipping drink.
